Spirit and mana regen in Forever
What is measured about Spirit and mana regen in the Forever beta, the formula Tidecaller uses for it, and what is still unconfirmed.
The five-second rule and regen while casting
Mana regen in Forever is continuous: there are no two-second ticks. The five-second rule still applies, so regen from Spirit stops for five seconds after you spend mana. Gear MP5 keeps working inside the five-second rule: a level 20 mage's casting regen equalled exactly the staff's +2 MP5.
The Shaman talent Mindfulness lets 17%, 33% or 50% of Spirit regen continue while casting, for 1, 2 or 3 points. Every healer class has an equivalent talent. The Polished Driftwood Icon, a relic, lets 8% of regen continue while casting. Whether it adds to Mindfulness is unconfirmed: Tidecaller assumes it adds, capped at 100%.
Intellect and mana
Intellect does not change Spirit regen: 56 Spirit gave 66 MP5 at both 50 and 64 Intellect. Each point of Intellect gives 15 mana.
The measured readings
These are readings of the Spirit tooltip, "Mana Regeneration by N per 5 sec while not casting", from a level 22 Orc Shaman. The tooltip rounds to whole numbers.
| Spirit | MP5 not casting | Line fit | Levels-off fit | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 43 | 53 | 57.4 | 52.0 | Excluded: no bonus Spirit, sits off the line |
| 48 | 60 | 60.5 | 58.5 | |
| 53 | 64 | 63.7 | 63.7 | |
| 56 | 66 | 65.6 | 66.4 | |
| 60 | 68 | 68.1 | 69.6 | |
| 61 | 69 | 68.7 | 70.3 | |
| 65 | 71 | 71.2 | 73.0 | |
| 71 | 75 | 74.9 | 76.5 | |
| 76 | 78 | 78.1 | 78.9 | |
| 81 | 81 | 81.2 | 81.1 | |
| 87 | 85 | 85.0 | 83.4 | |
| 90 | 87 | 86.8 | 84.4 |
The fitted line
From 48 to 90 Spirit the readings are a straight line: 30.5 + 0.626 × Spirit MP5, within 0.6 MP5 of every reading. A worst miss under 1 fits, because the tooltip rounds.
The 43 reading has no bonus Spirit and sits off the line, so it is left out of the default fit.
The levels-off alternative
Tidecaller also offers a curve that levels off, 114.0 − 2666 ÷ Spirit, fitted to all twelve readings. It fits worse: its worst miss is 2.7 MP5. The calibration box in the calculator fits both shapes to readings you type in, so you can check them against your own character.
What is unconfirmed
- The Spirit rate above 90 Spirit, and at other levels. The readings come from a level 22 character.
- Whether the Polished Driftwood Icon adds to Mindfulness.
